Kanto ORA Active Desktop Speakers - Best Sound Per Square Inch Money Can Buy?
I believe, its all about analog vs digital, the outputs must be analog no matter what. Maybe speakers are better these days, maybe even some amps are way better, but these old analog amp are better at tone and bass.
Dirac prices are breathtaking. Made worst its been included in previous AVRs far below prices of Denon and Marantz. Youd think once you get higher tier offerings eventually it would be included. As much as I love the innovation and quality it still seems a cash grab and leaves me wondering why prices are so high.
The light sensor is handy for people who don't like switching back and forth between settings for day and night. For example, the calibrator mentioned South Park being a blast in the eyes. Most TV shows are like this, so just add thr light sensor to the quick menu for an easy toggle.
Gene, I know Marantz is tight lipped about releasing AV20. However, do you any sense of when or if it might happen? Have you recd any hints of something coming? I need a new processor but AV10 is overkill for my setup.
Nope, I have no news on if that is true or not. I will inquire.
@@Audioholics I get the impression many are waiting for it. Decent amt of interest on AVS for 7706 replacement. Thanks for checking. 👍🏻
Most people don't have the ability to hear different tone, harmonies dynamics in the complexity of music.....since they can't and it does take a lot of ear training to do it, they of course throw out how ridiculous it would be to spend for them.........would have to agree with THEIR approach since they would rather be conviced by a boring voice analyst and graphs etc.........try this........do you own a good CD player? or SACD?.............add the Kimber Kable PK 14 and if you don't hear a difference then maybe audio isn't for you.....................I have gone to 1000s of concerts, studied music scores, music theory, piano, violin viola, 2 degrees in Music and yes, almost 60 playing the guitar...I can read music fluently so I would expect as I see with my friends that they simply don't hear what I do. I feel this is true for 95% of the population................it's not a scam if you can hear the differnce. You can't hear a graph.........the human ear is not a sound measuring machine.... Ciao.
Nonsensical. Remove sight from cable comparisons and the perceived differences evaporate. There is no mystery for audio signal propagation through wire. There are no psycoacoustics with cables. Placebo and fancy marketing always prevail to the uninitiated.
35k ..
Own these speakers for two channel. Powered by a by a Wyred 4 Sound stereo amp and Parasound preamp all connected to my laptop in a home office setting. My macbook is feeding all the source material. The sound is fantastic! 100% beyond as advertised. Highly recommended! BTW - can't wait for the 1528 reveal!
A fellow euphoria enjoyer. I agree. I don’t use any streaming services except Apple TV because they are actually good. Netflix keeps making bullshit about 4k this 8k that hey how about audio bandwidth higher than 768kbps?? What a joke
Please put the Kimber Kable PK 14 with your CD or SACD.............if you can't hear that improvement then audio is not for you..............stunning.
This guy is a clown. They are the S2000 Pros and they do NOT have ribbon tweeters.
You're the clown. The model is the A200 and Edifier calls the tweeter a waveguide ribbon tweeter on their product page: edifier-online.com/products/airpulse-a200
You can’t measure the audible qualities of a cable! It is totally dependent upon the system it is interfaced with!
Absolutely they are awful .
It’s like, and right.
I did not know you can play piano, I myself am a drummer
I’ve had my March Audio p452 d class for three years. Has the same module and performance specs as this m23. This tech is truly game changing. D class is it.
Well really interesting but I have an older Sony Bravia Smart TV model KD-49X7000E and I do not have half of those Settings features and would lie to see a tutorial on setting up that particular model. I know it is quite old now but still in perfectly good working order except that I would like to know for example display features such as for the picture brightness, Gamma, light sensor (if it even has one that is), etc and why this model has suddenly lost all of the original apps a that it came with.
I don’t see “7.1.4”, I see “7.2”. What is the difference between 7.1.4 vs “7.2”? Is 7.2 really “7.1.2”
the last digit represents # of height channels. 7.2 is just 7 bed channels and 2 subs. 7.1.4 is 7 bed channels, 1 sub and 4 height channels....
@@Audioholics got it… thanks!
Uhm. I own the sb16 ultra. It is a great sub, but I do miss some mid bass output for my video games. Would the Arendal be better for my use? Thank you❤
My house was pre wired with all ceiling speakers. So I just went with it. I have a Sonance (I think I spelled that right) 5.1 box set plugged into $500 Yamaha AV receiver. The flush mounted round ceiling speakers pivot inside the speaker cup. The speakers are aimed directly at the audience sitting on the couch. The T.V. is hanging on the wall with all cables hidden in the wall. Very clean setup. I think, for a smaller size living room like mine, this setup works for basic 5.1. Although the Yamaha receiver isn’t top of the line, it delivers. No Atmos, but still sounds great for 5.1.
I agree with your comments on biamping, but it's not useless. You could power the tweeter with a low power tube amp for some extra sweetness if you're into that type of thing. Also, I would totally run these sealed for 2 channel music, and perhaps boost the bass a little with EQ, because I like my bass as tight as a gnat's ass for fast punk and metal.
Then just get the 1723 Monitors and 2 sealed subs rather than killing the dynamic range of the bass in such a large tower.
@@Audioholics Well I already thought about that, a lot. The problem with those monster monitors is that they will require monstrous stands or tables to get the tweeters near ear level. None of the stands I see for sale look wide enough to prevent them from toppling. What to do? Custom stands? Custom sub enclosures? No matter how I game it out, it always ends up costing a lot more than the towers, which are already at the limit of my budget.
Those measured dB differences are even larger than I expected them to be ...
10ths of a db is not large at all.
@@Audioholics Sure but I expected it to be much less than that (basically, non-measurable).
thank you!!
I had to laugh when he mentioned that he once worked for AuraSound as I have numerous AuraSound speakers lying around....a pair (owned three pairs at one time) of LSW-828M's which are large stand-mount speakers, three pairs of their LSB-527M bookshelves and three of their center channel speaker (LSC_537M). All of them featured the unique Lineaeum monopole tweeter. I listen to the pair of LSB-527M's in my garage almost every day. Not to mention I've been using their Mobile Reference component speakers in my vehicle for many years. Aura had a cult-like following with their MR line of car audio speakers and I was a part of it. I even have an unopened box of the 5" woofer version (MR5.1's?) of their MR component speakers just in case my MR6.1's ever start giving me trouble.
Thank you! I have 2 AppleTVs and one is the older generation and I had that one in the bedroom where the set up is less audiophile. I spent like 10 minutes trying to find this setting on the older gen and it was just not there. Check the one in the bedroom and bingo! Also, take your Apple TV on vacation with you if there is wifi and a TV with HDMI then it's so friggin easy. If only there was passthrough audio, but a boy can dream.
This is the kind of company many of us want to support.....been around for decades, family-run so they're not too big and insensitive when you have a problem. I'm a fan of PSB speakers and Grado headphones for that reason. I have two Atlantic Tech SB-1000 10" subs that I bought on close-out pricing from Parts Express around twenty years ago and I'm still quite happy with them in my basement HT(although I had to replace the plate amp in both of them recently) but I would love to have the 12S in my set-up.....I gotta make it happen ASAP! Major kudos to RSL!
Love the work guy!!!!
Hi guys, thanks for the great video, I have the 1723 monitors using them for with a subwoofer for home theater, the guys At Arendal recommended I plug both ports to let my subwoofer handle the low bass. I do use arc room correction. Should I unplug any ports?
Depending on the crossover frequency to the sub, it probably doesn't matter if the ports are plugged or sealed. The bandwidth should be so heavily filtered that ports shuoldn't be producing much sound anyway. However, if you are using an abnormally low crossover frequency, like below 80Hz, its probably a good idea to have the ports sealed.
Is running them full range even with A subwoofer only for 2 channel listening, or is it also for full surround sound movie set up also.
Both 2 channal and home theater if you want the best sound.
@@jameslarson2277 do I have to rerun room correction or can I just change towers and center to full range?
@@matthewdemartino-z4k You would definitely have to rerun room correction.
Is that LFE +main also or just LFE?
@@jameslarson2277LFE + mains also or just LFE
Great towers! I'm still rocking a pair of bp2002.
Terminals are on the mid of speaker, never seen one comment about speaker cable hanging in mid air, thats just ok?🤔
Someone should have made a 4 way crossover for the SVS pinnacles.
i know the builder in ceiling surround system is not ideal. However, I have them. What would be a great way to make my situation better? get left right center speakers and use ceiling as atmos? 5.1.4? angle the ceilng speakers so it can reach the listeners? video on this would be amazing!
The tweeters in the 1723 monitor thx begin to drop off ,presumably due to overheating, after running a few compression tests in one of the reviews here on RUclips. Do these use the same tweeters as the monitors and do they exhibit the same behaviour ?
I never heard of this being a problem in any of James Larson's tests for any Arendal products. The big advantage of these speakers is high dynamic range.
@@Audioholics if you have a look at Jonathan VonEngeln review from about 7 months ago, he’s tests showed the tweeters dropping off after repeated compression runs in REW which were below THX spl levels. The results were repeatable. Maybe both of the speakers were defective but what are the odds of that
@MrBonger88 it's possible the test signal tripped a resettable PTC. Continuous signals do not represent actual program material, and that's not how THX does certification testing.
@@AudioholicsPossibly yes. for what it’s worth Arendal was able to recreate the compression but they didn’t specify at what spl. I think his example started at around 10-12 kHz at 95 dB sweep. If you watch the visualization the first sweep at 95 dB is ok, it’s not until the second sweep that it drops off
@MrBonger88 yep definitely a PTC at play and likely a good measure to reduce field failure. I haven't heard a single owner complain that Arendals sound compressed at high SPL.
Gene, I can tell u are a huge progressive rock fan. I'm surprised u didn't put Rush in that group. 76' 2112 & 81' Moving Pictures were my favs. Neil Peart is arguably the best drummer that ever lived.
I bought the 1723 Towers a year and a half ago and liked them so much, I bought the 1723 Tower S for the surrounds. Some would say that's overkill just for surround speakers but those people are fools. Biamping the fronts because why not. Put all of them on 1" thick travertine plinths, and put those on top of those rubber/cork absorbtion pads. I feel like that's all the isolation you need, even for hardwood floors. I use an Integra DRX-8.4 AVR and its powerful enough that I don't feel a need for separate amps. The whole system sounds fantastic, and amazes everyone who comes over to hear it. Arendal has tremendous bang for the buck.
SVS, take notes on the ouriggers.
This or the Monolith M-12 THX ported?
I’m pretty strong been lifting for 15 years. When I bought these they felt so heavy because you can’t put your hands down an entire side of the box for fear of destroying a Speaker
I can just barely squat the 1723 Tower S up from the floor. I tried the 1723 Tower and there was just no way. Now the doc says I need a backiotomy.
I had to carry these up the stairs of my loft apartment by myself. It wasn't enjoyable but definitely worthwhile.
I do not know how to read all those graphs. Is there a way to learn how to read them?
Yes, click on the links in the written review that explain them. www.audioholics.com/loudspeaker-design/loudspeaker-measurements-2
Do you guys have any inside info on the upcoming Arendal 1528 Series? I am super-curious about them!
Even if Gene did know, he would not be allowed to say anything due a NDA, standard protocol,
Be careful, Gene, otherwise Danny is going to find some cheesy parts in the crossovers, but he can fix them with a set of tube connectors.❤
😆 🤣 🔨
I like these but Im not so sure they are a better deal than the JBL hdi 3800 priced at $3200 now at Crutchfield
The JBLs are great speakers but not built to the level of the Arendals.
@@Audioholics performance wise at $700 less?
Iv been wondering for a long time now to replace my hdi 3800 with these arendals, but when I sell my 3800, there is no way back, and can never afford them again, so I dont know if a dare to switch them out with the 1723
Take him to the gym with you.😅
We live top far apart, unfortunately.
I bought these just before the FL Audio show and as great as the new SVS are, I wouldn’t trade them for these.
is it like dynamat? what u put behind the license plate so it doesnt rattle?
sealing it up would likely be optimal for adding subs. xover at 60-70hz. the s version would be more a more natural fit for this though
